Pakistan Workshop Advances Food System Transformation

The recent National Stakeholder Workshop in Pakistan brought together experts to delve into the crucial role of healthier, sustainable, and equitable food systems in realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The workshop aimed to address the methodological and metric challenges in measuring food system transformation, aligning with global standards to meet the SDGs by 2030.

Experts stressed the urgency of transforming food systems in Pakistan, echoing the UN Food System Summit's call to action. The workshop emphasized the necessity of collaborative efforts between public and private sectors to drive positive change and ensure sustainable development.

Key objectives of the workshop included a thorough review of existing indicators, the identification of new indicators, and the prioritization of indicators for the Nourishing Food Pathways program by GAIN. Technical sessions facilitated insightful discussions and pinpointed priority areas for the development of new indicators.

Notable outcomes of the workshop encompassed the compilation of a comprehensive list of new indicators tailored for measuring food system transformation in Pakistan. The country-led prioritization of missing indicators and heightened awareness of data sources, such as the Pakistan Food System Dashboard, were also highlighted.

A significant commitment was made to develop, pilot, and validate these indicators by 2027 to ensure accurate monitoring of food system transformation progress in Pakistan.
