The Global Neighbourhood for Media Innovation (GNMI) conducted a 3-day Sabz Journalism Environmental Journalism Training in Islamabad, focusing on empowering journalists for effective climate reporting and raising awareness on environmental issues.

The Global Neighbourhood for Media Innovation (GNMI) recently organized a 3-day Sabz Journalism Environmental Journalism Training in Islamabad in collaboration with the United States Department of State. Led by senior environmental journalist Afia Salam, the training aimed to empower mid-level journalists, digital content producers, and filmmakers engaged in climate-related reporting. The program covered topics such as understanding the science of the environment, data-driven story production, digital storytelling techniques, and strategies for content dissemination.

Renowned experts like Talha Ahad and Badar Khushnood led sessions, providing valuable insights into digital news startups and marketing techniques for environmental reporting. Participants from leading media houses in Islamabad, including APP, PTV, Dawn News, and Hum News, actively took part in the training.

The training highlighted the urgent need for increased climate reporting in Pakistan, especially in the face of rapid urbanization in Islamabad. Participants emphasized the challenges posed by urban expansion, deforestation, and increased construction on the city's environment. The Sabz Journalism Fellowship Program aims to equip journalists with the skills to report effectively on environmental issues and promote awareness among the public through data-driven and investigative reporting.
