IRSA has initiated significant water releases, surpassing dead levels at Tarbela and Mangla Dams, raising flooding concerns. Effective water management strategies are crucial in flood-prone areas.

Flooding concerns have escalated as the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) has initiated significant water releases from various rim stations. The recent surge in water levels has been particularly notable in the River Indus at Tarbela Dam and the River Jhelum at Mangla Dam, surpassing their respective dead levels. The inflow levels have been closely monitored, with detailed reports of water inflow and outflow at key dams and stations.

IRSA has released a total of 152,700 cusecs of water from the rim stations, while the combined inflow stands at 187,200 cusecs. At Tarbela Dam, the water level in the River Indus has risen to 1467.63 feet, significantly exceeding its dead level of 1,398 feet. The recorded water inflow and outflow at Tarbela Dam were 38,100 cusecs and 20,000 cusecs, respectively. Similarly, at Mangla Dam, the water level in the River Jhelum has surged to 1167.60 feet, well above its dead level of 1,050 feet. The inflow and outflow of water at Mangla Dam were reported as 61,400 cusecs and 45,000 cusecs, respectively.

Furthermore, substantial water releases have been documented at Kalabagh, Taunsa, Guddu, and Sukkur, with flow rates of 84,900, 58,200, 49,500, and 11,100 cusecs, respectively. Noteworthy releases have also been observed from the River Kabul at Nowshera and the River Chenab at Marala, with 62,900 cusecs and 15,600 cusecs of water being discharged, respectively.

The escalating water levels and significant releases across various key points in the river system highlight the pressing need for effective water management strategies and heightened vigilance in flood-prone areas. It is imperative for authorities and communities to remain vigilant and prepared for potential flooding scenarios as the situation continues to evolve.
