Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has revealed that the Sindh government is planning to allocate a substantial Rs1.5 billion package to settle the dues of retired officers and employees of local bodies. This decision was made public during a meeting with Saifuddin Advocate, the Leader of the Opposition in the City Council. Mayor Wahab stressed the need for a united effort to tackle municipal challenges and propel Karachi's progress.

One of the key issues highlighted by Mayor Wahab is the unchecked growth of high-rise buildings in the city, many of which lack proper master leases. He urged City Council members to work together to bring these structures under regulatory oversight. Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi and Financial Advisor Nayab Saeed were also part of the discussions to address these concerns.

Mayor Wahab and Saifuddin also deliberated on the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, with the KMC budget set for presentation on June 24. Plans for the fiscal year 2024-25 include the completion of 210 ongoing development projects across different city areas, with a budget allocation of Rs2.5 billion. Additionally, Mayor Wahab mentioned steps taken to renew expired leases in the Old City Area.

Regarding the payment disputes between KMC and K-Electric, Mayor Wahab informed that the matter is currently under review by the Supreme Court. Efforts are being made to expedite the resolution of this issue and address pending concerns promptly.
