Karachi faces a surge in street crimes during Eid-ul-Fitr, with fatal shootings and rising robbery incidents. The Sindh High Court demands urgent action to restore law and order.

Amid the festive celebrations of Eid-ul-Fitr, Karachi is grappling with a surge in street crimes, with another tragic incident reported at Gulshan-e-Iqbal Chowrangi. A man, identified as Turab Zaidi, was fatally shot by robbers for resisting a robbery attempt. This incident sheds light on the escalating law and order challenges faced by the city.

Law enforcement officials have confirmed that in addition to the fatal shooting of Turab Zaidi, four other individuals sustained injuries in separate robbery attempts across various areas of Karachi, including Shah Latif Town, Nazimabad, and Korangi. The alarming statistics reveal that this year alone, 59 lives have been lost and 200 individuals have been injured due to resistance during robbery incidents.

During the holy month of Ramadan, Karachi witnessed a staggering 6,780 criminal incidents, resulting in the snatching of 20 vehicles and theft of over 130 others. Furthermore, 830 motorcycles were reported as snatched, with an additional 4,200 motorcycles stolen during the same period. Tragically, 19 fatalities and 55 injuries were recorded during Ramadan, highlighting the severity of the situation.

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued a stern ultimatum to provincial authorities, demanding the restoration of law and order within a month. Chief Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi emphasized the need for decisive actions against influential individuals contributing to the deteriorating law and order scenario in the province.

As Karachi continues to grapple with the escalating wave of street crimes, urgent measures are imperative to ensure the safety and security of its residents. The authorities face mounting pressure to address the root causes of these criminal activities and restore peace to the city.
