Landowners in Jand Bari File Lawsuit Over Dam Compensation

Landowners in Jand Bari, Abbottabad, have filed a lawsuit due to the delayed compensation for a water dam construction project covering 104 Kanals of land. This dam is a crucial component of the Abbottabad Gravity Flow Scheme, which aims to enhance the water supply infrastructure in the area. The initiative is part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa City Improvement Project (KPCIP) and has sparked concerns among landowners regarding the establishment of a clean water source for drinking purposes in Jand Bari.

The affected landowners, such as Riaz Ahmed, Ali Asghar, Riaz, Shabir, Sulaiman, Rahman, and others, have voiced their dissatisfaction with the lack of adequate consultation prior to commencing the dam construction. In response, they are planning to pursue legal action to safeguard their rights and have established an action committee to push for transparency in the project's implementation. The allocation of land for the dam has faced opposition from residents, leading to heightened tensions within the local community.

The project, inaugurated by former Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mahmood Khan, is designed to secure a new water source for Abbottabad city to fulfill water requirements until 2040.
