The National Assembly Secretariat enforces biometric attendance to combat 'ghost employees' and enhance accountability, with strict measures for non-compliance.

The National Assembly (NA) Secretariat has taken a significant step towards ensuring accountability among its staff members by implementing a biometric attendance system. This move comes in response to reports of 'ghost employees' who were found to be drawing salaries without actually being present at work.

The NA Secretariat has issued warnings to its employees emphasizing the mandatory requirement to record their biometric attendance. A total of 90 employees who were not enrolled in the biometric system have been served show-cause notices, giving them a three-week deadline to complete their biometric registration and adhere to their duty hours punctually.

Failure to comply with the biometric attendance system will result in disciplinary measures, as per sources familiar with the situation. The Speaker of the National Assembly has made it clear that the implementation of this system is crucial to identify and eliminate any instances of fraudulent practices within the organization.

The introduction of the biometric attendance system by the NA Secretariat marks a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability within the National Assembly. This initiative not only aims to address the issue of 'ghost employees' but also underscores the commitment of the organization to uphold ethical standards and ensure the efficient functioning of its operations.
