Nepra approves a Rs4.92 per unit power tariff hike for February 2024, citing fuel cost variations. The adjustment excludes certain consumers and aims to ensure stable power supply.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has given the green light to a Rs4.92 per unit hike in power tariff for the month of February 2024. This adjustment is attributed to fuel cost variations and is set to be reflected in consumers' electricity bills for April 2024.

According to Nepra's notification, this increase will not affect electric vehicle charging stations and lifeline consumers. The revised tariff will be clearly displayed as a separate line item on consumers' bills, calculated based on their electricity usage in February 2024.

This move aims to cover the additional costs incurred in generating electricity due to fluctuations in fuel prices. While this adjustment may lead to higher electricity bills for most consumers, it is essential for maintaining the stability of the power sector and ensuring uninterrupted supply.

The approval of the Rs4.92 per unit increase in power tariff by Nepra for February 2024 underscores the ongoing challenges in managing fuel costs in the energy sector. Consumers can expect to see this adjustment reflected in their upcoming electricity bills, emphasizing the importance of efficient energy consumption and sustainable power generation practices.
