The Walled City Lahore Authority and the Evacuee Trust Property Board collaborate to restore the historic Bhai Karam Singh Gurudwara in Lahore, preserving its cultural heritage and boosting tourism in the region.

The Walled City Lahore Authority (WCLA) and the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) have joined hands for a significant conservation project aimed at preserving the historic Bhai Karam Singh Gurudwara in Lahore. This initiative, fully funded by ETPB and managed by WCLA, focuses on restoring the 19th-century Gurudwara to its former glory, ensuring its long-term preservation and adaptive reuse.

The restoration work will encompass the Gurudwara's original structure, intricate carvings, and ornate decorations. Structural consolidation, roofing, flooring repairs, and the replacement of damaged lime plaster with new applications are part of the comprehensive plan. Historical evidence will guide the Pucca Qalai and stucco work, while existing woodwork will be repaired and supplemented as necessary. Once the conservation is complete, the Gurudwara will be open to the Sikh community and tourists, offering religious practices and cultural experiences.

The adaptive reuse strategy aims to maintain the Gurudwara as a vibrant cultural hub while preserving its historical significance. The project is slated for completion within 24 months from its inception. The restoration of Bhai Karam Singh Gurudwara in Jhelum, a city steeped in history, is expected to boost tourism in the region. The Gurudwara forms part of a historic complex that includes landmarks like the Shiva Temple, Afghana Masjid, Sanghoi Temple, Sheran Wala Haveli, Gurdwara Chowa Sahib, and Rohtas Fort. Nearby attractions such as Nandna Fort, Tilla Jogian, Mangla Fort, and Tulaja Fort further enrich the tourism experience.

The collaborative effort between WCLA and ETPB to restore Bhai Karam Singh Gurudwara stands as a testament to the commitment to preserving cultural heritage. This project not only safeguards a significant historical site but also enhances tourism opportunities, offering visitors a glimpse into the rich tapestry of the region's past.
