Authorities in Srinagar crack down on illegal water extraction, seizing hydraulic pumps and promoting responsible water usage to address water scarcity challenges and ensure fair access to clean drinking water.

Authorities in the Jal Shakti Department recently took action against illegal water extraction in Srinagar. Raids were conducted on residential and commercial properties following reports of hydraulic pumps being used unlawfully. The crackdown led to the seizure of 12 hydraulic pumps and numerous rubber pipes in various parts of the city.

The Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Sub-Division 3rd, Balgarden, spearheaded the operation to address concerns about the misuse of portable water. Residents were cautioned against using hydraulic pumps for water extraction due to the exacerbation of water scarcity issues and potential legal consequences.

Assistant Executive Engineer Suhaib Yusuf stressed the importance of preventing water misuse and ensuring fair access to drinking water for all residents. The raids targeted areas with prevalent illegal water connections and unauthorized boosting of water supply.

In response to persistent water scarcity challenges in Srinagar and Kashmir, the Public Health Engineering (PHE) authorities announced plans to crack down on illegal water connections. Chief Engineer Vivek Kohli emphasized the need for responsible water usage and discouraged using drinking water for non-essential purposes.

The intensified efforts by PHE Kashmir aim to regulate water supply connections, disconnect unauthorized users, and promote equitable distribution of water resources. Residents are encouraged to register their water connections to avoid disruptions and support efficient water usage.
