The Rawalpindi district administration cracks down on tandoor shops violating government-mandated prices, resulting in fines and strict enforcement of price regulations to protect consumers.
In a bid to uphold government-mandated prices for Patir Roti and Naan, the district administration in Rawalpindi has initiated a strict crackdown on tandoor shops that have been flouting the set prices. Recently, 35 tandoor shops in the district were fined a total of Rs.1,35,000 for charging more than the fixed price of Rs. 14 per loaf for Patir Roti. This action is part of the Punjab government's efforts to ensure that consumers are not overcharged for these staple food items.
Over the last 48 hours, District Magistrates have inspected 142 tandoor shops, leading to the identification of 35 shops that were found guilty of violating the price regulations. Since the beginning of May 2024, a total of 4,000 tandoor shops have been inspected in Rawalpindi, resulting in fines amounting to Rs. 27,53,500 for 827 violations. Furthermore, one First Information Report (FIR) has been filed, 58 tandoor shops have been sealed, and 166 violators have been arrested for non-compliance.
The crackdown on tandoor shops in Rawalpindi serves as a reminder that adherence to government-mandated prices is essential to protect consumers from being overcharged. By taking strict action against violators, the district administration is sending a clear message that price regulations must be followed to ensure fair pricing and accessibility of essential food items for all residents.
