In a bid to curb the practice of overcharging for roti and naan, the district administration in Lahore recently carried out a targeted operation resulting in the arrest of five individuals and the filing of seven cases against them. The crackdown, which spanned 24 hours, involved the inspection of 1,354 roti and naan selling points across the city.

Of the total points inspected, 1,290 were found to be complying with official pricing regulations, while violations were detected at 67 points. Those found guilty of overcharging faced fines totaling Rs 200,000. The enforcement efforts were spearheaded by assistant commissioners and price control magistrates who conducted raids in various tehsils of Lahore.

The initiative was launched following a directive from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who set the approved rate for a 100-gram roti at Rs 15. The district administration is actively monitoring the implementation of these new prices to ensure fair pricing for consumers.
