A recent high-level meeting convened at the Sindh Secretariat, spearheaded by Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, aimed to address the pressing issue of drug proliferation and implement preventive measures. The gathering saw the participation of key officials, including Home Minister Sindh Ziaul-Hassan, Provincial Ministers Sardar Shah and Mir Tariq Talpur, alongside representatives from the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and the Excise Department.

During the meeting, ANF officials provided a comprehensive overview of their actions against drug syndicates in the province, highlighting collaborative efforts with law enforcement agencies like the police and Pakistan Rangers Sindh. Dr. Pechuho emphasized the necessity of united action to bolster anti-narcotics measures, with a particular emphasis on safeguarding the nation's future.

Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan deliberated on formulating recommendations for establishing rehabilitation centers in Sindh, with plans to present relevant legislation to the Law Department for approval. The objective is to enhance the efficacy of rehabilitation programs for drug addicts within a regulated framework.

Minister Zia-ul-Hassan drew attention to the link between drug addiction and street crimes, stressing the importance of a robust anti-narcotics campaign supported by security agencies throughout Sindh. He also underscored the urgency of setting up large rehabilitation centers for drug addicts under the provincial government's supervision, suggesting that all such centers, including those managed by NGOs, should be officially registered.

Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah proposed a coordinated anti-narcotics initiative in educational institutions, seeking collaboration from relevant departments. The Minister of Social Welfare reiterated the ongoing efforts to develop recommendations for comprehensive rehabilitation centers, noting the absence of specific legislation governing such facilities.
