The K-IV Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme project is a vital initiative aimed at addressing the water scarcity issues in Karachi, Pakistan's largest city. Scheduled for completion by 2025, the first phase of the project is well underway and is expected to provide 260 million gallons per day (MGD) of water to the city. This will be a significant boost to Karachi's water supply, with plans to further increase it to 390 MGD in the subsequent phase, stage-2. The overall goal of the project is to deliver a total of 650 MGD of water to Karachi, ensuring a more sustainable water supply for its residents.

The Water and Power Development Authority is overseeing the execution of the K-IV project, which comes with an estimated total cost of Rs126 billion. A substantial amount of over Rs40 billion has already been invested in the project, demonstrating the commitment to its successful implementation. Originally approved in 2014 by the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) government, the project received 50% funding from the PPP government, highlighting the collaborative efforts to address Karachi's water needs. The 2014-15 budget allocated Rs849 million specifically for the K-IV water supply project, emphasizing its importance in the region's development.

The K-IV Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme project holds great promise for Karachi, offering a sustainable solution to its water supply challenges. With significant progress already made and a clear roadmap for completion, the project signifies a crucial step towards ensuring a reliable and sufficient water supply for the city's growing population. As Karachi looks towards a more water-secure future, the K-IV project stands out as a beacon of hope, promising improved living conditions and enhanced quality of life for its residents.
