Severe weather in Balochistan leads to tragic deaths, flooding, and thunderstorms. PDMA urges public to take precautions and prepare for ongoing weather challenges.

Severe weather conditions struck parts of Balochistan, claiming the lives of a man and two children due to lightning strikes amidst heavy rainfall. The downpour led to flooding in low-lying areas of Quetta, with reports of rainfall in various other regions including Mastung, Kalat, Noshki, and Pishin. A dust storm in Kalat further exacerbated the situation, reducing visibility in the area.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has been actively monitoring the weather situation, confirming the tragic deaths caused by lightning strikes in Sorab district and Pishin. The Met Department had earlier forecasted showers in several districts, with predictions of heavy rainfall in Zhob, Sibi, and Jhal Magsi, among others. Thunderstorms accompanied by heavy showers were expected in Chaman, Loralai, and Kalat, while rainfall was anticipated in Turbat, Gwadar, and Kech.

The PDMA issued a statement urging the public to take necessary precautions during the inclement weather, emphasizing the protection of vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and the disabled. Citizens were advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from electrical hazards, and refrain from approaching deep waters or dams. Livestock owners were instructed to make suitable arrangements, and drivers were advised to seek shelter or drive cautiously during rainfall.

In light of the forecasted weather conditions until April 14, residents were reminded to contact relevant authorities in case of emergencies. The PDMA stressed the importance of maintaining clean stormwater drains and ensuring the safety of both individuals and animals amidst the ongoing weather challenges.
