Ahsan Iqbal Leads Narowal Sports City Upgrades

Pakistan is gearing up to host the South Asian Games next year, as announced by Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal. The focus is on preparing Narowal Sports City to meet international standards in time for the event. A recent meeting chaired by the federal minister emphasized the need for swift action in upgrading the sports facilities at Narowal Sports City. The administrative and financial responsibilities of the sports city have been transferred to the University of Narowal, with a committee established to oversee ongoing development projects and ensure timely completion.

The committee, comprising representatives from the University of Narowal, Pakistan Sports Board, and Higher Education Commission, will work towards the timely completion of renovation work in various sports facilities, including squash and badminton halls, basketball, cricket, football, and hockey grounds, as well as hostels. The Minister stressed the importance of expediting all pending matters, such as the construction of a kabaddi ground and resolving electricity-related issues at the Sports City. He also pledged to personally monitor the performance of executing agencies by visiting Narowal Sports City weekly.

Furthermore, the government aims to promote sports at both the national and international levels. In addition to hosting the South Asian Games, plans are underway to organize National Games to provide local athletes with ample preparation opportunities. Narowal Sports City is undergoing significant upgrades to ensure that all sports coaches are available year-round to provide international standard training to talented athletes, enabling them to compete at the international level and represent Pakistan with pride.
