The Islamabad High Court judges, led by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, unanimously agree to combat interference in judicial affairs by presenting an 'institutional response' to prevent future meddling and ensure accountability.

The full court meeting of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) held on Tuesday saw Chief Justice Aamer Farooq leading discussions on responding to alleged meddling in the court's affairs. Six judges of the IHC had previously written to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) seeking guidance on interference by intelligence agencies in judicial matters.

In response, the apex court initiated suo motu proceedings and requested proposals from various legal bodies and the government on addressing such issues and holding responsible parties accountable.

During the IHC meeting, all judges unanimously agreed to provide an 'institutional response' to combat interference in judicial affairs. A draft containing these proposals will be submitted to the Supreme Court for consideration.

The IHC registrar's office confirmed the full court meeting's unanimous stance and the intention to present a united front before the apex court in the ongoing suo moto case.

Last month, the IHC judges raised concerns about intelligence agencies' interference in judicial matters, prompting the Supreme Judicial Council to intervene and seek recommendations on addressing such interference and ensuring accountability.

The IHC's decision to collectively address meddling in judicial affairs reflects a commitment to upholding the independence and integrity of the judiciary. By presenting a unified front, the court aims to establish a robust mechanism to prevent future interference and hold accountable those responsible for such actions.
