Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi initiates investigation into 15 forest fires on Margalla Hills, highlighting the urgency to address climate change impacts and promote sustainable forest management in Pakistan.

An investigation has been initiated by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi into the forest fires that erupted at 15 different locations on Margalla Hills, situated on the northern outskirts of Islamabad. The fires, which started at three spots on Hiking Trails 3 and 5, quickly spread to a dozen more locations, prompting the deployment of helicopters due to difficulties faced by ground firefighters. Naqvi, in collaboration with Islamabad Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, has directed a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the fires, whether intentional or accidental.

Expressing the urgency of the situation, Naqvi stressed the immediate formation of a committee to probe the 15 fire incidents that occurred within a single day. Officials appointed by the Islamabad chief commissioner and police chief are actively investigating the matter, as Margalla Hills, a popular tourist destination, continue to face the threat of wildfires amidst a severe heatwave in Pakistan.

Pakistan has experienced a rise in forest fires in recent years, attributed to climate change and rising temperatures. Efforts are underway to contain the fires, with collaborative measures being taken by various agencies to bring the situation under control.

The investigation into the forest fires on Margalla Hills underscores the importance of addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable practices to protect our natural resources. As we strive to combat the impact of climate change, it is crucial for authorities and communities to work together in safeguarding our forests and preserving the beauty of our landscapes for future generations.
