On May 23, 2024, the Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi led a review meeting in Islamabad to discuss the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA). The Minister highlighted the crucial need to verify the authenticity of identity cards and citizenship, prompting the development of a comprehensive National Registration Policy.

The proposed policy aims to enhance transparency and security in citizen registration to combat issues like illegal registration of citizenship. Minister Naqvi stressed the importance of consensus among all provinces and the role of Union Councils in the registration process.

During the meeting, plans were discussed to expand NADRA centers in major cities like Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Multan. The Minister urged swift implementation to ease public inconvenience and directed the establishment of NADRA counters in service centers for better accessibility.

Efforts to improve efficiency were recognized, with waiting times reduced from 120 to 75 minutes. However, the Minister called for further measures to decrease waiting times. Currently, NADRA registration covers 85% of the total population, as reported during the meeting attended by key officials.

The focus on enhancing the National Registration Policy and expanding NADRA services reflects the government's commitment to ensuring the authenticity of identity documents and preventing illegal registrations. These efforts aim to streamline the registration process, improve accessibility, and ultimately benefit the public by providing a more secure and efficient system for citizen registration.
