Karachi Commissioner spearheads efforts to combat polio, emphasizing community involvement and reaching over 1.7 million children in the ongoing campaign.

In a bid to combat the spread of polio in Karachi, the Commissioner has directed Deputy Commissioners to ensure all children are included in the current anti-polio campaign, with a specific focus on addressing cases of refusal. The primary goal is to administer polio drops to children under five years old, especially in areas at high risk. This directive came during a meeting led by the Commissioner to evaluate the progress of the anti-polio initiative in the East and Central districts.

Recognizing Karachi as a high-risk region for polio transmission, the Commissioner emphasized the necessity for robust measures to eradicate the virus from the city. Deputy Commissioners were advised to involve revenue staff in the campaign to bolster the workforce and ensure efficient monitoring. Furthermore, collaboration with local leaders, religious figures, and senior citizens across different communities was encouraged to fortify the program.

During a visit to Union Council Al-Noor Society, the Commissioner underscored the significance of enhancing drainage and sanitation systems to support the polio eradication drive. In another visit to Gadap Gajro Union Council, the Deputy Commissioner provided an update on the ongoing anti-polio activities in the area.

At Jannat Hospital in Gajro, the Commissioner urged parents to prioritize their children's health by actively participating in the anti-polio campaign. The current drive, set to conclude soon, has already reached over 1.7 million children in the past four days.

The efforts led by the Karachi Commissioner to intensify the anti-polio campaign demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding the health of children in the city. By engaging various stakeholders and emphasizing community involvement, the initiative aims to create a polio-free environment for the younger population. With ongoing progress and widespread coverage, Karachi is moving closer to achieving its goal of eradicating polio.
