A meeting in Hyderabad led by Deputy Commissioner Memon discusses strategies for the upcoming polio eradication campaign, emphasizing vaccination, worker safety, and comprehensive planning.

In a crucial step towards eradicating polio from the region, a meeting was held in Hyderabad to evaluate the preparations for the upcoming polio eradication campaign scheduled from June 3 to June 9. Led by Zain-ul-Abideen Memon, the Chairman of District Polio Eradication Committee and Deputy Commissioner of Hyderabad, the meeting focused on assessing the outcomes of the previous campaign and strategizing for the upcoming drive.

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Memon expressed concerns about a positive environmental sample and stressed the importance of implementing all necessary measures to stop the spread of the poliovirus and achieve complete eradication. Special attention was given to addressing refusal cases to ensure that all children under the age of five receive the anti-polio vaccine. Strict directives were issued to take legal action against parents who refuse vaccination, emphasizing the need for children to receive two doses of the vaccine during each campaign to protect future generations from disabilities.

The meeting underscored the significance of training for polio workers and highlighted the role of the Extended Programme on Immunisation (EPI) in conjunction with the polio campaign.

Strategies were also discussed to manage stray dog populations to prevent dog bites during the campaign, with a strong focus on ensuring the safety of frontline polio workers. Measures were put in place to provide Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS) and beverages to workers to prevent heatstroke during the hot weather.

Dr. Bismah outlined the campaign's objectives, aiming to vaccinate around 400,000 children under the age of five from 163 Union Councils. The vaccination efforts will be carried out by mobile teams, fixed teams, transit teams, and roaming teams, supervised by area in-charges and UC MOs.

The meeting was attended by key officials including DHO Hyderabad Dr. Lala Jaffar, Additional Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, and representatives from the health department.

The concerted efforts and strategic planning showcased in the meeting reflect Hyderabad's commitment to eradicating polio and ensuring the well-being of its young population. With a comprehensive approach that addresses challenges such as refusal cases, environmental samples, and worker safety, the city is poised to make significant progress in the fight against polio.
