The Power Development Department in Kashmir has enhanced power generation capacity, benefiting consumers in the region despite ongoing power curtailment challenges.

The Power Development Department in Kashmir has recently announced a significant increase in the region's power generation capacity, leading to a boost in the power supply compared to the Jammu region. Officials from the Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL) have confirmed that consumers in the Kashmir valley are now receiving more power than ever before.

Despite the positive development, the department has decided to continue with the existing power curtailment schedule in the Kashmir valley. Rajesh Prasad, the Principal Secretary of the Power Development Department, mentioned that there are no immediate plans to change the current power distribution strategy.

Prasad emphasized the remarkable growth in local power generation capacity in Kashmir, revealing that the region now produces close to 1000 Megawatts of power, a significant increase from the previous 500 Megawatts. However, due to limited power availability, KPDCL has announced further power curtailments, with a promise to ease these restrictions once the power situation stabilizes.

On the other hand, the Jammu Power Development Corporation Ltd (JPDCL) has introduced a new power curtailment schedule for the Jammu region, implementing restrictions in three shifts. This decision comes in response to a severe heatwave affecting the region, prompting JPDCL to allocate an additional 200 Megawatts of power to provide relief to the residents.

The recent surge in local power generation capacity in Kashmir has brought about positive changes in the power supply scenario, ensuring that consumers in the region receive adequate electricity. While challenges such as power curtailments persist, efforts are being made to address the situation and improve power availability for all residents.
