The Punjab Interior Department in Lahore has put forward a proposal aimed at reducing the sentences of specific prisoners to facilitate their release in time for Eid-ul-Adha. The initiative, spearheaded by the Home Department, involves a plan that will be presented to the Cabinet for approval. The proposal targets male prisoners aged over 70, female prisoners over 60, and incarcerated women with children under five years old who have completed at least two-thirds of their sentences. It is crucial to note that meeting the two-thirds sentence completion requirement and exhibiting good behavior are key factors for being considered for sentence reduction and subsequent release.

Interior Secretary Punjab, Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, recently conducted an inspection at the Central Jail Lahore. During the assessment, various facilities such as the kitchen, hospital, prisoner barracks, and industrial and vocational center were reviewed. Mengal emphasized the importance of ensuring that prisoners receive food that complies with hygiene regulations.
