Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik updates National Assembly on K-Electric's progress in reducing load shedding in Karachi, emphasizing collaboration and technical enhancements for a more reliable power supply.

K-Electric's efforts to minimize load shedding in Karachi have shown promising results, as shared by Minister of State for Finance, Revenue, and Power Division, Ali Pervaiz Malik, during a recent update to the National Assembly. Out of the 2,109 feeders in the city, approximately 1,500 are now experiencing no load shedding, marking a significant improvement in the power supply situation. However, some feeders with higher losses still endure 6-10 hours of load shedding, highlighting the need for further enhancements.

The government, in collaboration with local authorities and public representatives, is actively working to reduce losses on ten specific feeders that currently exceed 25%. Minister Ali Pervaiz clarified that the actual duration of load shedding ranges from 6 to 10 hours, correcting previous misinformation about 16-hour outages. He also emphasized that electricity tariffs are regulated by NEPRA and any adjustments in prices are directly linked to fuel costs.

In instances of technical issues, power cuts lasting more than 10 hours may occur. Minister Ali Pervaiz reassured the members of the National Assembly that their concerns will be taken into account and addressed promptly. Furthermore, he pledged to visit Karachi personally to resolve the situation while ensuring that existing agreements on net metering remain intact.

The government's commitment to promoting renewable energy includes addressing the challenges faced by consumers on feeders with significant losses. A thorough evaluation of transformer losses is planned to effectively tackle this issue and improve the overall power distribution system in Karachi.

The recent developments regarding K-Electric's efforts to reduce load shedding in Karachi reflect a positive step towards enhancing the city's power supply reliability. With a focus on collaboration, transparency, and technical improvements, the government aims to address the existing challenges and ensure a more stable electricity supply for the residents of Karachi.
