The district administration in Lahore cracks down on violators of new roti and naan prices, with fines and penalties imposed to ensure compliance and fair market practices.

In a bid to enforce the newly revised prices for roti and naan, the district administration in Lahore has taken strict action against violators. The revised prices stand at Rs 16 for a 100-gram roti and Rs 20 for a 120-gram naan. The crackdown, which was initiated following the directive of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has resulted in the arrest of 31 individuals and the registration of 42 cases related to price violations.

During the enforcement operation, a total of 1,321 roti and naan points were inspected, with 1,217 points found to be complying with the official prices. However, violations were detected at 104 points, leading to fines totaling Rs 137,000 being imposed on various tandoors for selling bread at higher prices.

The enforcement teams, led by Assistant Commissioners and Price Control Magistrates, conducted thorough checks across different tehsils in Lahore. Instances of non-compliance were met with fines and even the sealing of establishments found in violation. For instance, Assistant Commissioner Cant Nabeel Memon fined a tandoor owner Rs 5,000 in Nishtar Colony, while AC City Rai Baber penalized two tandoors and sealed one for non-compliance.

The district administration is actively working to ensure the implementation of the new pricing structure for roti and naan throughout the city. Citizens are urged to report any discrepancies in prices by contacting the helpline at 0800003245.

This crackdown serves as a reminder that adherence to the official prices is mandatory, and any violations will be met with strict penalties. The administration's efforts aim to create a fair and regulated market for essential food items like roti and naan, benefiting both consumers and businesses in Lahore.
