Authorities in Punjab crack down on inflated roti prices, with 115 arrests and fines exceeding Rs 1.6 million imposed. Chief Secretary Zaman leads efforts to ensure compliance with reduced prices and safeguard consumer interests.

Authorities in Punjab have intensified their efforts to curb the practice of selling roti at inflated prices, following directives from the Chief Minister. A total of 115 individuals have been arrested, 25 cases registered, seven tandoors sealed, and fines exceeding Rs 1.6 million imposed across various districts.

The crackdown, aimed at ensuring compliance with reduced roti prices, was discussed in a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman. Industry and food department officials, along with divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners, participated in the review.

Chief Secretary Zaman emphasized the importance of strict enforcement of price regulations to provide relief to the public. With the recent reduction in wheat flour prices, selling roti above the set rates is deemed unjustifiable.

During the meeting, it was revealed that price magistrates inspected 6,000 establishments, identifying 638 instances of overcharging. Additionally, 165 complaints received through the Qeemat Punjab app were promptly addressed, with 153 cases resolved.

The Chief Secretary instructed deputy commissioners to escalate actions against price violators and ensure timely resolution of consumer complaints. Special Branch and Urban Unit were tasked with monitoring roti prices daily to maintain price stability.

In conclusion, the Punjab government's proactive measures underscore its commitment to safeguarding consumer interests and promoting fair pricing practices in the region.
