The Punjab government has allocated Rs 6.5 billion for tourism projects in the upcoming financial year 2024-25, focusing on enhancing infrastructure and promoting activities to boost the tourism sector in the region.

The Punjab government has demonstrated its commitment to boosting the tourism sector by allocating Rs 6.5 billion for tourism projects in the upcoming financial year 2024-25. This significant budget allocation reflects the government's focus on enhancing tourism infrastructure and promoting tourism activities across the region.

The allocated budget will be utilized for a total of 31 projects, including both ongoing and new initiatives. Among the new projects, a substantial portion of the funds will be directed towards the 'Murree Development Programme,' which aims to enhance tourism facilities in the region with an estimated cost of Rs 10 billion. Specific allocations include Rs 5 billion for this program in the financial year 2024-25.

Additionally, the budget includes allocations for various projects such as enhancing and digitalizing the Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management (ITHM), developing eco-friendly tourist facilities, automating the Digital Tourist Service (DTS) in Lahore, and establishing technical facilities and visitor services in Lahore.

Other initiatives receiving funding include the establishment of a Business Development Cell, digital mapping of tourism sites, setting up tourism huts along the River Indus, enhancing tourism facilities at the TDCP Patriata Chairlift in Murree, and conducting feasibility studies for projects like constructing a Glass Bridge in Murree and installing a chairlift in Kotli Sattian.

Furthermore, funds have been allocated for establishing an eco-friendly Glamping Pod Village at Chewra Hill, designing and implementing a cable car project in Kala Bagh, Mianwali, and establishing the Darshan Resort in Kartarpur.

The Punjab government's substantial budget allocation for tourism development underscores its commitment to promoting tourism and enhancing visitor experiences in the region. These investments in tourism infrastructure and facilities are expected to attract more tourists, create employment opportunities, and contribute to the overall economic growth of Punjab.
