The Regional Transport Authority in Hyderabad cracks down on 59 passenger coaches for overcharging during Eidul Azha holidays. Fines imposed and excess fares recovered to protect passengers' rights.
During the recent Eidul Azha holidays, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) in the Hyderabad region cracked down on 59 passenger coaches for overcharging passengers. This move came in response to reports of transporters exploiting passengers by charging exorbitant fares during the festive season.
Under the directives of Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, the RTA conducted thorough inspections on the highways, resulting in the imposition of fines totaling Rs97,000 on the erring coaches. Additionally, an amount of Rs292,000, which was collected in excess fares from passengers, was successfully recovered.
Speaking on the initiative, the RTA Secretary emphasized that certain transporters have a tendency to take advantage of the increased travel demand during Eid holidays, leading to unjustified fare hikes for intercity journeys. The primary objective of the fare checking operation was to safeguard passengers from falling victim to such exploitative practices.
The swift action taken by the RTA in curbing overcharging practices during Eidul Azha holidays underscores the authorities' commitment to protecting the rights and interests of passengers. By ensuring fair and transparent pricing in the transport sector, such initiatives contribute to enhancing the overall travel experience for individuals during festive periods.
