SASSI University Commemorates Pakistan's Nuclear Capability

Pakistan's Minister for Defence, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, highlighted the significance of Pakistan's nuclear capability in maintaining peace in the region, particularly in relation to India. Speaking at an event organized by the South Asian Strategic Stability Institute (SASSI) University to commemorate the 26th anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer, which marks Pakistan's nuclear tests in 1998, Minister Asif underscored the role of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal as a defensive measure to deter aggression and safeguard national sovereignty.

General Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah, Chief of Army Staff, praised the 1998 nuclear tests for establishing a credible minimum deterrence and restoring regional power equilibrium. He acknowledged the contributions of scientists, engineers, and officials involved in Pakistan's nuclear program.

Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal from Quaid-e-Azam University emphasized the strategic importance of nuclear capabilities for regional actors and advocated for the modernization of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal and doctrine.

Dr. Maria Sultan, Chairperson of SASSI University, discussed the impact of nuclear posture on regional military dynamics and called for the peaceful advancement of Pakistan's nuclear energy program. Ambassadors Khalid Mehmood and Ali Sarwar Naqvi reiterated support for Pakistan's nuclear program, emphasizing the country's commitment to responsible nuclear stewardship and regional stability.

The event concluded with a documentary honoring the individuals involved in Pakistan's nuclear program. Attendees from various sectors, including media, academia, armed forces, national security, and diplomatic corps, participated in the event.

The event organized by SASSI University served as a platform to reaffirm Pakistan's stance on nuclear capability as a means to ensure peace and stability in the region.
