Pakistan is gearing up to kickstart its annual Hajj flights to Saudi Arabia from May 9, with the national flag carrier facilitating the pilgrimage journey for a growing number of individuals. This year, the Hajj flights are scheduled to begin in the second week of May and extend into the following month, as thousands of Pakistani pilgrims prepare to embark on the sacred pilgrimage. Notably, the Kingdom has reinstated Pakistan's Hajj quota and eliminated the age limit for applicants, ensuring broader access to the spiritual journey.

Following the announcement of the results of a draw for Hajj 2024 in December 2023, over 63,000 successful applicants were selected to partake in the pilgrimage under the state-run scheme. In a significant move, the Saudi Hajj and Umrah ministry has mandated the use of smartphones for all pilgrims this year, with mobile applications playing a crucial role in providing guidance and assistance throughout the pilgrimage.

A dedicated mobile application has been launched to aid Hajj pilgrims, offering essential information ranging from their Hajj flight details to their accommodation in Saudi Arabia, along with instructional videos. Additionally, each pilgrim will receive a complimentary mobile SIM card from a Saudi telecommunications company, providing 180 minutes for international calls.

As part of the preparations, the second phase of Hajj training, led by 40 trainers, is set to commence on April 15 at 122 locations across Pakistan, aimed at familiarizing pilgrims with new initiatives and essential Hajj-related information. Mandatory vaccination for pilgrims will commence 10 days prior to the Hajj flights, with pilgrims being equipped with a set of essential items including a suitcase, hand carry bag, shoe bag, Ihram belt, and a green scarf adorned with the Pakistani flag.

The anticipated dates for Hajj in 2024 are from June 14th to June 19th, although these dates are subject to change based on the sighting of the moon, which determines the commencement of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah, the period during which Hajj takes place. Pilgrims are advised to verify these dates closer to the time of the pilgrimage to ensure accurate planning and preparation.
