A recent incident in Lahore reveals challenges faced by polio vaccination teams in Pakistan. A woman physically attacks polio team members, highlighting the importance of protecting healthcare workers and ensuring vaccination team safety.

An alarming incident unfolded in Lahore recently, shedding light on the challenges faced by polio vaccination teams in Pakistan. In Central Flat No 192-G, Faisal Town, a woman vehemently refused to allow a polio team to administer vital polio drops to her children. The unidentified woman resorted to using a 'mosquito-killer spray' to physically attack the female polio team members, Sana and Amina, during their visit on June 6th.

The situation escalated when the woman not only rejected the polio drops but also hurled verbal abuse at the health workers. Despite a formal complaint lodged by UMCO Sajid Zulfiqar at the Faisal Town Police Station, no legal action was taken by the authorities. The complaint highlighted the woman's misconduct, interference in official duties, and physical assault on the polio team.

Disturbingly, reports indicate that the Faisal Town police failed to register a case even a day after the distressing incident occurred, raising concerns about the safety and security of frontline health workers.

This incident underscores the importance of raising awareness about the critical role of polio vaccination in safeguarding children's health. It also highlights the need for stringent measures to protect healthcare workers who are dedicated to eradicating preventable diseases. Ensuring the safety of vaccination teams is paramount in achieving a polio-free Pakistan and safeguarding the well-being of future generations.
