Recent reports from Sindh and Balochistan have highlighted a concerning increase in poliovirus cases, with two additional children being diagnosed with disabilities as a result of the virus. This brings the total number of poliovirus cases in Pakistan to 8 for the current year.

The affected children, a two-year-old boy from Qilla Abdullah and a three-year-old girl from Kemari, Karachi, displayed symptoms of paralysis prompting poliovirus testing. The test results confirmed the presence of the YB3A poliovirus cluster, indicating active transmission in the region.

Aisha Raza Faraooq, the PM’s focal person, has expressed deep concern over the rising number of poliovirus cases in the country. She emphasized the significant threat this virus poses to the health and well-being of children, urging immediate action to address the situation.

The emergence of new poliovirus cases in Sindh and Balochistan underscores the importance of ongoing vaccination efforts and public health initiatives to combat the spread of this debilitating disease. It is crucial for communities to prioritize immunization and disease prevention measures to safeguard the health of children and prevent further outbreaks.
