Deputy Commissioner Matiari, Muhammad Yusuf Shaikh, chaired an emergency meeting with Health Department and Revenue officials to address the growing threat of a measles epidemic in the district. The meeting resulted in directives for the Health Department to establish specialized teams and implement comprehensive strategies to curb the spread of measles.

Key attendees at the meeting included Additional Deputy Commissioner-I Noor Ahmed Khahro, District Health Officer Pir Ghulam Hussain, WHO representative Dr. Babar Hussain, District Manager PPHI Iqra Bhatti, and Assistant Commissioners Abdul Sattar Shaikh, Abid Qamar, and Abdul Khaliq.

The Health Department was instructed to provide daily reports on their efforts to prevent measles and manage the outbreak. DHO Pir Ghulam Hussain reported a total of 138 measles cases, with 64 confirmed positive, and 5,617 children vaccinated in affected areas. Tragically, five deaths have been attributed to measles thus far.

Despite vaccination efforts, some parents in areas like Khaiber, Matiari, and Hala Old have been hesitant to immunize their children. To address this, health teams are conducting awareness campaigns to educate the public on preventive measures and treatment options.

The proactive measures taken by the Matiari district authorities, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Yusuf Shaikh, demonstrate a concerted effort to combat the measles epidemic. Continued vigilance, community engagement, and vaccination drives are crucial in containing and preventing further spread of the disease.
