Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah announces the establishment of SEPRA, a governing body for power generation in Sindh, focusing on affordability and accessibility of electricity services.

The Sindh Electric Power Regulatory Authority (SEPRA) is poised to become the primary governing body for power generation, distribution, and transmission within the province of Sindh. This significant development was announced by Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah, marking a shift towards greater autonomy in decision-making for the energy sector in the region. SEPRA will operate independently, free from the oversight of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), with a focus on providing affordable electricity to the public.

Minister Nasir Shah, along with Energy Secretary Mossadiq Ahmed Khan and NEPRA Member Rafiq Ahmed Sheikh, discussed the establishment of the SEPRA Board during an awareness meeting at the Sindh Energy Department's office. The minister emphasized the goal of offering discounted tariffs ranging from 30 to 40 percent to ensure accessible and improved electricity services for the citizens. Additionally, plans were unveiled to introduce mini-grid stations in every district of the province, enhancing energy accessibility.

The selection of SEPRA board members will prioritize merit and transparency, ensuring that the board comprises competent individuals. Once operational, SEPRA will streamline the approval process for electricity distribution companies, eliminating the need for NEPRA's involvement. Minister Nasir Shah reiterated the government's commitment to public welfare and aligning decisions with the vision of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, focusing on enhancing the overall well-being of the populace.

The establishment of SEPRA signifies a significant step towards improving the energy landscape in Sindh, with a strong emphasis on affordability, accessibility, and efficiency in electricity provision. The move towards greater autonomy and localized decision-making is expected to benefit the public and drive positive changes in the energy sector, ultimately contributing to the welfare and development of the province.
