Farmers in Punjab plan to resume protests after failed negotiations with the government. The drop in flour prices offers relief, but underlying issues persist in the agricultural sector.

Following unsuccessful negotiations between the Punjab government and farmers, the latter have announced plans to resume protests across Punjab starting Thursday. The Pakistan KisanIttehad expressed disappointment over the lack of consensus and declared a protest call in all districts of Punjab. Farmers intend to demonstrate by bringing livestock onto the roads and placing crops as a symbolic gesture of dissent.

The talks aimed to address issues such as wheat pricing and delays in government purchases. Meanwhile, the price of a 20-kilogram bag of flour in Lahore has significantly dropped by Rs800, now priced at Rs2000. AsimRaza, Chairman of the Flour Mills Association, confirmed the price reduction, attributing it to the decrease in wheat prices. This decline has made flour more affordable, benefiting both consumers and flour mill owners.

The impasse in negotiations between farmers and the Punjab government has led to renewed protests, highlighting ongoing challenges in the agricultural sector. While the drop in flour prices may offer some relief to consumers, the underlying issues of fair pricing and timely purchases remain unresolved, underscoring the need for sustained dialogue and cooperation between stakeholders.
