LESCO's crackdown on electricity theft results in over 30,000 arrests and hefty fines for offenders, signaling zero tolerance for power theft.

Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has been relentless in its efforts to combat electricity theft in its circles covering five districts - Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, and Okara. In a span of 222 days, LESCO has identified a staggering 75,276 connections where customers were illegally siphoning off electricity. This crackdown is part of a grand anti-power theft campaign initiated under the directives of the Federal Power Division.

LESCO's spokesperson revealed that out of the identified cases, 71,540 FIRs have been registered against electricity thieves, leading to the arrest of 30,031 individuals involved in power theft. The company has charged a total of 90,769,366 detection units amounting to Rs 3,376,105,222 to the culprits. The operations are being closely monitored by LESCO's Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Shahid Haider, who has vowed to continue the crackdown until electricity theft is completely eradicated.

During the latest phase of the campaign, LESCO uncovered 304 customers engaged in electricity theft, resulting in the registration of 144 cases and the arrest of five individuals. Notably, even large commercial consumers were found to be involved in power theft and faced disconnection along with hefty fines. Some major power pilferers were charged significant amounts, such as Rs 380,000 to an offender in Phoolnagar and Rs 245,000 to another in Saddar area of Phoolnagar.
