MEPCO teams uncover 19 cases of electricity theft in Sahiwal, confiscate illegal connections, and initiate legal action to combat power theft.
In a recent crackdown on electricity theft, Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) teams uncovered 19 cases of illegal power consumption in the Sahiwal circle areas. The teams also discovered an unauthorized mini grid station in Jamal Deen Wali, Sadiq Abad, which was supplying electricity to approximately 25-30 shops.
The illegal activities were detected through various methods such as direct 'Kunda' connections, loop systems, and meter tampering. Six instances of power theft were found in Sahiwal city, six in Arif Wala division, six in Pakpattan division, and one in Chichawatni.
MEPCO officials confiscated conductors and meters used in the illicit connections and imposed significant fines on the offenders. Sub-divisional officers have initiated the process of filing cases against the individuals involved in electricity theft by submitting applications to the relevant police stations.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of MEPCO to combat electricity theft and ensure fair distribution of power resources. Such actions serve to protect the national grid and prevent financial losses incurred due to illegal consumption of electricity.
