In a recent development in the upper house of the Parliament, Presiding Officer Mohammad Ishaq Dar oversaw the oath-taking ceremony for 41 newly elected members. Notably, senators Faisal Vawda and Maulana Abdul Wasay were absent from the proceedings but later signed the roll of members. Among the prominent senators who took the oath were Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, Musadik Masood Malik, and Muhammad Aurangzeb, among others.

During the session, PTI Senator Ali Zafar raised concerns about postponing the elections for Chairman and Deputy Chairman until Senate elections were held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, citing Article 60 of the constitution. However, Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar clarified that the House could not remain dysfunctional without its members and that the objection to postponing the elections was overruled by Presiding Officer Ishaq Dar.

It was highlighted that KPK senate elections had not been postponed due to force majeure, indicating unavoidable circumstances. Therefore, the Senate Chairman and Deputy Chairman elections would proceed as scheduled. The newly elected members were requested to take their oath in accordance with the constitutional provisions.
