Rawalpindi prepares for Eid-ul-Azha with RWMC ensuring clean celebrations through waste management efforts. Cattle markets bustling, residents engaged in purchasing sacrificial animals.

The city of Rawalpindi is abuzz with activity as preparations for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha celebrations are in full swing. Residents are flocking to cattle markets to purchase sacrificial animals, with both official and unauthorized markets seeing a surge in buyers.

Eleven official cattle markets have been established across the district, offering a wide variety of animals from different regions such as interior Punjab, Sawat, and Kaghan. Prices for goats and cows, the most sought-after sacrificial animals, range from Rs 50,000 to Rs 300,000, with some hopeful buyers anticipating price drops closer to the festival.

To ensure a clean and hygienic environment during Eid-ul-Azha, the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) has mobilized 3832 workers and officials, who have had their holidays canceled. A detailed plan is in place for the collection and disposal of animal waste, with 485 vehicles and multiple collection points and transfer stations strategically located throughout the district.

The RWMC is actively distributing biodegradable bags and informative pamphlets to residents, while also stationing workers at slaughter points to oversee proper waste disposal. Complaint registration centers and awareness campaigns have been launched, with an estimated 9,000 tons of waste expected to be managed during the Eid period.

Following the cleanup operation, the city will undergo a thorough sanitization process. Eid-ul-Azha presents a significant challenge for sanitation workers, as waste production in the city doubles on the day of the festival.

As Rawalpindi gears up for Eid-ul-Azha, the city is not only embracing the festive spirit but also prioritizing cleanliness and waste management. With meticulous planning and dedicated efforts from the RWMC, residents can look forward to a hygienic and environmentally conscious celebration. Let us all play our part in ensuring a safe and enjoyable Eid-ul-Azha for everyone in Rawalpindi.
