Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz has confirmed that Karachi will not be facing a heatwave in the upcoming week, thanks to the cooling sea breeze. The temperatures in the city are expected to stay between 36 to 38 degrees Celsius over the next 10 days, with humidity levels fluctuating from low to high.

In response to a heatwave alert from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) has decided to postpone ninth and matric exams scheduled from May 21-27. The NDMA has cautioned about potential heatwaves in different parts of Pakistan in the following weeks.

The initial heatwave is predicted to impact regions in Sindh like Umarkot, Tharparkar, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, and Sanghar, along with Bahawalpur and Rahimyar Khan in south Punjab. Temperatures in these areas may rise to 40°C, with the heatwave lasting for two to three days between May 15 and 30.

Following this, a second heatwave is anticipated towards the end of May or early June, with temperatures potentially reaching 45°C and persisting for four to five days. The third heatwave is foreseen in the initial 10 days of June, affecting areas such as Tharparkar, Umarkot, Sanghar, Badin, and Khairpur.

It is crucial for residents in these regions to stay informed about the heatwave alerts and take necessary precautions to stay safe during the upcoming high-temperature periods. Keeping hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, and wearing light clothing are some simple yet effective ways to combat the heat. Stay tuned to local weather updates and follow the guidelines provided by authorities to ensure your well-being during these challenging weather conditions.
