The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting heatwave conditions in northwest India until May 18. States like Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh are expected to face temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in the upcoming days. On the other hand, regions such as Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and others can look forward to light rainfall. The IMD also anticipates a wet spell with isolated heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in South Peninsular India until May 18.

The Southwest Monsoon is set to advance into the South Andaman Sea, parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal, and the Nicobar Islands around May 19. Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in various pockets across different regions, with severe heatwaves expected in parts of West Rajasthan and isolated areas of Punjab and Haryana. Hot and humid weather is on the horizon for Konkan, Goa, Saurashtra, Kutch, and Gangetic West Bengal. Temperatures are projected to increase by 3-5 degrees Celsius in many parts of Northwest and East India over the next five days.

In terms of rainfall, isolated heavy rainfall is foreseen in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, while scattered light to moderate rainfall is expected in several northeastern states. Additionally, isolated rainfall activity is likely in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from May 17-19.

As India braces for heatwave conditions and the onset of the Southwest Monsoon, it is crucial for residents to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to stay safe and healthy. While some regions face scorching temperatures, others can expect relief in the form of rainfall. It is essential to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and follow guidelines provided by local authorities during this period of varying weather patterns.
