Parts of Sindh, Pakistan, including Karachi and Hyderabad, are bracing for a severe heatwave with temperatures expected to rise significantly above normal levels. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued warnings, advising residents to stay safe and cool during this period of extreme weather.

Parts of Sindh, a province in Pakistan, are bracing for a prolonged period of intense heat on Tuesday. The temperatures are predicted to rise significantly, reaching 6 to 8 degrees Celsius above the usual levels. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued warnings about the prevailing hot weather conditions, with gusty winds expected to provide some relief in the afternoon.

The weather pattern in the region is influenced by continental air and high-pressure systems in the upper atmosphere, which are likely to persist for the next couple of days. Additionally, a shallow westerly wave is anticipated to affect the northern areas of Pakistan starting from the evening of May 28.

Specifically, southern districts of Sindh, including the major city of Karachi, are expected to endure the brunt of the heatwave. Coastal areas are likely to experience hot and humid conditions, with gusty winds potentially stirring up dust in some areas like Karachi, Thatta, Badin, and Hyderabad. Maximum temperatures in Karachi are forecasted to range from 35-37°C on Tuesday and 34-36°C on Wednesday, while Hyderabad may see temperatures between 45-47°C and 46-48°C on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

Recent observations indicate that parts of Sindh have already been sweltering under extreme heat. Cities like Mohenjo-Daro and Nawabshah recorded temperatures as high as 52°C, followed closely by Dadu and Jacobabad at 51°C, and Khairpur, Larkana, Rohri, and Sukkur at 50°C. Padidan registered a temperature of 49°C. In Karachi, the mercury soared to 36°C with a relative humidity of 75% in the evening, while Hyderabad experienced a maximum temperature of 44°C with a relative humidity of 62%.

As the heatwave persists in Sindh, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe and cool during this period of extreme weather. It is essential to stay hydrated, seek shade, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun to prevent heat-related illnesses. Keeping informed about weather updates and heeding official warnings can help mitigate the impact of the heatwave on individuals and communities.
