An Anti-Terrorism Court judge denies extension of Shah Mehmood Qureshi's physical remand in connection with May 9 riots following Imran Khan's arrest. Lack of progress cited as reason.

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) judge has directed the police to submit the challan for ex-PTI federal minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi in connection with a case linked to the May 9 riots following the arrest of PTI's founding chairman, Imran Khan.

The ATC judge, through a written order, denied the Investigation Officer's (IO) request for an extension of Qureshi's physical remand. Initially, the IO was given 19 days of physical remand to recover Qureshi's mobile phone, but this attempt was unsuccessful. The judge emphasized that extending the physical remand was unnecessary without substantial progress in the investigation. Despite the initial 19-day remand, the IO was unable to locate the mobile phone. Subsequently, the IO sought an additional 30 days of physical remand to continue the search, which was also rejected by the ATC judge.

The case against Shah Mehmood Qureshi stems from the unrest that erupted after Imran Khan's arrest on May 9. The police have been investigating Qureshi's alleged involvement in the events that transpired during the protests.

The ATC judge's decision to deny further extension of Qureshi's physical remand indicates the court's stance on the need for substantial progress in the investigation. The case continues to unfold as authorities work to gather evidence and determine the next steps in the legal proceedings.
