Deputy Commissioner Wasim Hamid Sadhu initiates audit to combat profiteering ahead of Eid-Ul-Adha, enforcing strict measures to regulate prices and ensure fair marketplace for consumers.

Deputy Commissioner Wasim Hamid Sadhu has initiated a special branch audit to evaluate the performance of price control magistrates and combat profiteering in anticipation of Eid-Ul-Adha. This move follows a directive from Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif to adopt a zero-tolerance stance against profiteers, with the aim of alleviating the financial strain on the public. The authorities are working diligently to ensure that essential goods remain accessible at regulated prices.

The price control magistrates have been tasked with conducting daily inspections of markets to monitor pricing trends, with stringent penalties in place for any infractions, particularly concerning the cost of bread. Recent spot checks have led to fines amounting to Rs 98,000 being imposed on various establishments, including hotels and shops, for violating price control regulations. Regular field visits are ongoing, with severe penalties enforced on those found guilty of price manipulation.

The current focus has shifted towards overseeing fruit and vegetable markets to prevent unjustified price surges. Deputy Commissioner Sadhu stressed the critical need for rigorous supervision to uphold price stability. The meeting convened by the Deputy Commissioner was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner General Muhammad Saif, Assistant Commissioners, and other pertinent officials.

The ongoing efforts to curb profiteering and regulate prices ahead of Eid-Ul-Adha demonstrate the government's commitment to safeguarding the interests of the public. By enforcing strict measures and conducting regular inspections, the authorities aim to create a fair marketplace where essential commodities are available at affordable rates, ensuring a smoother experience for consumers during this festive period.
