An Inspection Team led by the Federal Ombudsman visited the ETO Office in Islamabad to address challenges in vehicle registration processes. Recommendations focus on transparency, education, and improving public service delivery.

An Inspection Team from the Wafaqi Mohtasib’s Office conducted a visit to the Excise and Taxation Office in Islamabad on Thursday, following the directives of Federal Ombudsman Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi. The purpose of the visit was to identify and resolve the challenges faced by the general public in vehicle registration processes.

The inspection team, led by a senior advisor, engaged with individuals at the office to listen to their complaints and ensure timely resolution. Subsequently, a report was submitted to the Wafaqi Mohtasib, who recommended the establishment of a one-window facilitation desk to streamline public services under a single roof.

During the visit, it was highlighted that the ETO Office currently offers online facilities for vehicle registration, transfer, and token tax payments. Additionally, applicants can avail these services at their doorstep for a nominal fee of Rs. 1900. Mobile teams from the ETO Office also extend registration services to the public at various locations daily after 4 pm.

However, concerns were raised by petitioners regarding the presence of an agent mafia charging exorbitant fees for basic services such as providing registration forms and photocopies. The inspection team emphasized the need for transparency and directed the administration to display clear information on requirements for registration and related processes in both English and Urdu.

Commending the existing facilities, the Wafaqi Mohtasib urged the ETO Office to launch an awareness campaign to educate the public. It was suggested that registration forms should be provided free of charge, and official rates for photocopies should be strictly enforced to prevent exploitation.

In conclusion, the visit by the Inspection Team signifies a step towards enhancing public service delivery and addressing issues faced by citizens in vehicle registration procedures. The recommendations put forth aim to promote transparency and accessibility, ultimately benefiting the common man.
