Punjab Police Stands Firm Amid Bahawalnagar Incident Fallout

In the aftermath of the Bahawalnagar incident, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar has addressed the public to dispel concerns regarding the morale of the Punjab Police. He firmly stated that 'anti-national elements' are manipulating the incident to propagate false narratives and create discord among institutions.

IGP Anwar highlighted that certain 'outlawed groups' are using social media to sow seeds of doubt about the unity between institutions, attempting to portray institutional conflict. Despite acknowledging procedural lapses in the Bahawalnagar incident, he emphasized that it was not indicative of a systemic failure.

An investigative inquiry, involving both police and military personnel, has been launched to delve into the incident. Additionally, the Punjab government has established an inquiry committee to ascertain individual accountability.

IGP Anwar urged the police force to disregard social media criticism and remain steadfast in their duties. He reiterated the department's commitment to personnel welfare and reaffirmed the police force's dedication to serving and safeguarding the nation.

Furthermore, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has announced a joint inquiry involving police and security personnel to ensure transparency and identify those responsible for any legal violations.
