Punjab colleges and authorities take proactive measures to combat the upcoming heatwave, including revised working hours, health precautions, and school schedule adjustments to protect vulnerable groups.
As Punjab braces for an upcoming heatwave, colleges in Lahore have taken proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff. The Department of Higher Education Punjab has announced revised working hours for colleges in the region from May 21 to 31.
During this period, colleges will operate in the morning shift from 7:30am to 11:30am, with Friday timings adjusted to 7:30am to 11:00am. Additionally, an evening shift will be in place from 4:00pm to 8:00pm to accommodate educational activities.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a heatwave alert covering the period from May 21 to 27. In response to this alert, district administrations have been directed to raise awareness among the public through various channels such as helplines, mosque announcements, and media platforms.
PDMA Punjab has also mandated the health department to take necessary precautions, including establishing special counters in hospitals, ensuring the availability of essential medicines, and canceling leave for doctors and paramedical staff to handle any potential health emergencies effectively.
Furthermore, authorities have advised adjustments in school schedules, recommending holidays for children under five years old to minimize their exposure to extreme temperatures. These precautionary measures aim to safeguard the public and reduce the impact of the impending heatwave.
As Punjab prepares for challenging weather conditions, collaborative efforts from educational institutions, disaster management authorities, and healthcare providers are crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. By implementing proactive measures and raising awareness, the region is better equipped to handle the effects of the heatwave and protect vulnerable groups.
