The Punjab government appoints judges to special courts, including anti-terrorism courts, to strengthen the legal framework and enhance court system efficiency.

The Punjab government has taken a significant step by appointing judges to various special courts in the province. This move, which includes the appointment of judges to anti-terrorism courts, was confirmed by Advocate General Punjab Khalid Ishaq during a recent hearing at the Lahore High Court (LHC).

During a hearing presided over by LHC Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan, a petition filed by the Punjab government was discussed. The petition requested the transfer of certain cases from Anti-Terrorism Court-1 Rawalpindi to another court. Advocate General Punjab presented a notification indicating that all vacant judge positions in anti-terrorism courts have been filled. Additionally, appointments have been made in anti-corruption courts, service tribunal, and consumer court.

Assuring prompt action on any pending appointments, the Advocate General Punjab received commendation from the chief justice for his efforts. Meanwhile, a federal law officer requested additional time for appointing judges in special courts, including accountability courts, citing the need for cabinet approval. The chief justice proposed expediting cabinet approval through circulation.

As a result, the federal government has been given a 15-day deadline by the chief justice to finalize the appointment of judges in special courts. Further proceedings have been adjourned to allow for the completion of this process.

The recent appointments of judges to special courts in Punjab mark a significant development in the judicial system of the province. With a focus on filling vacant positions and ensuring timely appointments, the government and judiciary are working together to strengthen the legal framework and enhance the efficiency of the court system.
