The Commissioner of Rawalpindi Division, Aamir Khatak, took a proactive step in the fight against polio by initiating the Second Sub National Immunization Drive (SNID-II). This campaign aims to protect children under five years old from the crippling effects of polio. The event, graced by representatives from the World Health Organization and Health Authority, highlighted the urgency of the situation following the discovery of positive polio environmental samples in the province.

With a target of immunizing approximately 906,011 children, the drive will be executed by a dedicated team comprising 2,834 mobile units, 677 area in-charges, 269 fixed points, and 192 Union Council medical officers. To ensure maximum coverage, vaccination services will also be available at 125 transit points within the district. Commissioner Khatak emphasized the need to prioritize high-risk areas and enforce a strict policy to address cases of refusal and non-attendance, leaving no room for complacency.

Dr. Muhammad Nadeem, the District Superintendent Vaccination, anticipates a significant turnout on the first day of the campaign, with over 160,000 children expected to receive the polio vaccine. He urged the community, particularly parents, to actively participate in eradicating polio, underscoring the collective responsibility in eliminating this disease from society.

The launch of the Second Sub National Immunization Drive in Rawalpindi Division marks a crucial effort in safeguarding children against polio. With a robust vaccination strategy and community engagement, the campaign aims to create a polio-free environment for future generations. By prioritizing prevention and swift action, authorities are committed to ensuring the well-being of all children and eradicating polio from the region.
