Punjab PDMA responds to recent tragedies, issues heatwave warning, and urges public vigilance to ensure community safety amid natural disasters.

Recently, Punjab faced a series of unfortunate events that claimed the lives of six individuals and left five others injured due to lightning strikes and a dust storm. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported these incidents in Sialkot and Rawalpindi districts, highlighting the need for immediate medical attention for the injured and financial support for the affected families.

In light of these tragedies, the Director-General of Punjab PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, directed the deputy commissioners of the affected areas to prioritize medical care and emergency preparedness. It was stressed that seeking shelter during severe weather, especially thunderstorms, is crucial to staying safe.

Additionally, a warning was issued by the PDMA regarding an upcoming heatwave in Punjab, with temperatures projected to reach 45°C to 48°C until Monday. Areas like Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, DG Khan, and Multan in Southern Punjab were identified as high-risk zones for extreme heat conditions. Authorities have been placed on high alert to manage any potential emergencies effectively.

To ensure public safety, citizens were urged to contact the PDMA Helpline at 1129 or reach out to Rescue 1122 in case of emergencies. The PDMA continues its efforts to raise awareness through various media platforms, educating the community about the risks associated with heatwaves and the importance of taking preventive measures.

As Punjab grapples with the aftermath of these tragic incidents and prepares for the looming heatwave, it is crucial for everyone to stay informed and vigilant. By following the guidance provided by authorities and seeking help when needed, we can collectively work towards minimizing the impact of natural disasters and ensuring the safety and well-being of our communities.
